Mission
Founded in 1988, InterAct is a theatre for today's world, producing new and contemporary plays that explore the issues of our time. InterAct's aim is to educate, as well as entertain, its audiences by producing world-class, thought-provoking productions, and by using theatre as a tool to foster positive social change in the school, workplace, and the community. Through its artistic and educational programs, InterAct seeks to make a significant contribution to the cultural life of Philadelphia and to American theatre. InterAct strives to: produce plays that explore the issues of social, cultural, and political relevance; cultivate new voices for the theatre; be socially responsible and actively involved in its community.

Description
In a time when our communities are rapidly diversifying, when information of all kinds is so accessible to most of us, when we can watch a war on television, when we can be up-to-the-minute witnesses to political debates and criminal trials, the theatre is a valuable mirror. InterAct uses the unique power and magic of theatre to ask difficult questions about the world we live in, examining the forces that influence what we believe and why. As stories about religious intolerance, cultural clash in the community, and freedom of speech dominate the headlines, InterAct dares to dramatize these complex and controversial issues with artistic integrity and fairness. The Company believes in creating important new works that represent our time and place, and introducing important new writers to the public through its world premiere productions, its developmental residencies, and its annual showcase of new plays. All of the plays that InterAct produces are new to Philadelphia audiences. The Company believes that it has a responsibility to do more than entertain privileged audiences. Utilizing the interactive power of performance and dramatic role-playing, InterAct seeks to cultivate tolerance and understanding, promote cultural diversity, and improve human relations in the community.
