“The People’s Light annual auction is the premiere fundraising event for our theatre education program Arts Discovery,” says Kristin Heisey, Director of Corporate Relations & Special Events.
This season marks the 23rd year of the Theatre’s comprehensive education programs. Arts Discovery programs, formerly known as Project Discovery, open windows onto new worlds for young people, help them think in new ways, and support their development academically, socially, and personally. People’s Light is committed to helping ensure that young people have multiple opportunities to benefit from the arts’ proven contribution to academic achievement. These programs bring young people together from very diverse communities and backgrounds for shared, meaningful experiences.
"People's Light is not just a groundbreaking theatre – it brings acting and culture and huge growth opportunities to children and teens from all walks of life,” says Moira Mumma, Co-Chair. "Arts done right, as they are on so many levels at People's Light, create life-changing experiences for people of all ages and stripes, broadening their world view in ways that affect not just themselves, but their communities and cultures."
Michael Ogborn, who has written original music for the Theatre’s most popular Pantos (Treasure Island, Cinderella, Snow White, and this season’s The Three Musketeers), will write songs specifically for this event. “The addition of Michael Ogborn and a cabaret style is the big difference this year,” says Heisey. “His songs will add a very personal touch.”
She continues, “One of the most exciting moments of the evening will be the drawing for the winner of the one-week stay for six people in the luxury Spanish villa, Casa del Jardín, minutes from the Costa del Sol. This raffle ticket has been a hot seller during our very cold winter months.”
