The Theatre Alliance facilitates collaborative promotions with its members to raise awareness for the theatre community and build a national profile for the Greater Philadelphia theatre industry. As new marketing opportunities arise, information is forwarded to the membership to solicit interest and involvement. Current promotional opportunities include:
- The Philly Theatre Casting Couch
The Philly Theatre Casting Couch is the core component of an ongoing audience engagement initiative intended to increase recognition of Greater Philadelphia as a world class theatre city through heightened visibility of the region’s theatres, and increased interaction with the general public. To date, more than 89 recordings of Philly Theatre Casting Couch interviews have been posted on the Theatre Alliance YouTube channel, the best of which have been included in a PSA for Philly Theatre which premiered at the 2010 Barrymore Awards.
- On Stage
One of our most successful Joint Marketing projects to date! The new version of our On Stage page is even better, giving equal opportunity for all participating organizations to showcase thier productions through a multi-level marketing platform on-line, in-print, on-air, and on schedule! Click here for more on the new On-Stage page.
- Gift Certificate Program
Launched in 2002, the gift certificate program allows theatre-lovers to purchase a certificate that can be used at more than 50 participating theatres. Providing a valuable service to the public, this program also promotes our member theatres by offering an avenue through which they can sell full-price tickets, subscriptions, and classes, and potentially attract new audience members.
- Cooperative Booths at Local Festivals
The Theatre Alliance organizes participation in various local festivals and street fairs, including the XPoNential Music Festival, the Rittenhouse Row Festival, and the Equality Forum’s SundayOUT. The Theatre Alliance coordinates between festival organizers and theatre companies, and staffs the booth. Participating organizations donate ticket giveaways and a small amount of volunteer time to assist in staffing the booth, and any cost for the booth is shared among participants. This allows organizations who would not otherwise have a presence at the festival to participate since cost and staffing are shared.
In addition to cooperative promotional opportunities that members opt in to, the Theatre Alliance organizes the following promotional opportunities on behalf of all member organizations:
- Theatre Alliance Website
The Theatre Alliance website (www.theatrealliance.org) provides convenient direct access to information on our member theatres with links to their websites, job postings, calendar listings, theatre news, press releases, and up-to-date information on our current programs. The website, which has more than 36,000 monthly visits, also features the Individual Members of the Theatre Alliance in the Philly Talent Database, a collection of Philadelphia theatre artists, technicians, administrators and educators.
- Openings & Closings Weekly Email Publication
This email publication is sent out every Monday and includes information on shows holding first public performance and final public performance during that week. The shows are sorted by genre to make it easy for audience members to find the show that is right for them. The show names link directly to ticketing information for the theatre company, encouraging the purchase of full price tickets. The email also serves both to showcase the breadth of theatre opportunities in the region, and to help people stay up-to-date on when shows are on stage so that they don’t miss that show they heard about, and really wanted to see.
- New Play Month
The Philadelphia theatre community displays an outstanding commitment to the development of new works. As such, the Theatre Alliance has declared February as New Play Month to celebrate the vibrancy and excellence of new play activity throughout the region. New Play Month includes promotion and awareness of world premiere productions, local premiere productions, second productions of new plays in development, workshops, readings and seminars. Events in the month of February are specially highlighted, with reference to the ongoing work throughout the season. This promotion helps to broaden the awareness of and support for the risk-taking involved with creating and developing new works.
- Hospitality & Tourism Listing Service
This program fosters relationships with organizations such as the Concierge Association, the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, Philadelphia Hospitality Inc., the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, and the Independence Visitors Center. By providing the hospitality industry with a reliable source of theatre activities for out-of-town guests, the Theatre Alliance builds Philadelphia's image as a first-class theatre town and destination city.
- Press and Media Liaison
The Theatre Alliance maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date media mailing and contact list, and also serves as an advocate for positive media relations in the community.
