Flashpoint Theatre Company Launches Its Most Adventurous Season Yet

For Immediate Release: September 1, 2009
Media Contact: Sara Madden, 215.370.2557

Fresh off the success of its landmark fifth season and its first-ever Barrymore nomination – Keith Conallen for Outstanding Lead Actor in Jump/Cut – Flashpoint Theatre Company is thrilled to announce its sixth season, featuring two Philadelphia premieres, one holiday classic, and the first-ever world premiere commission from the company.

The season kicks off with the Philadelphia premiere of boom by hot young playwright Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, running October 28-November 21, 2009. On a dark night in a subterranean lab, a feisty student and a mild-mannered biologist meet for a casual encounter…but end up changing the course of humanity. The production will feature Flashpoint founder Derick Loafmann, as well as Susan Giddings and Melissa Lynch.

We are especially excited to be presenting boom at the same time as Theatre Exile’s production of Peter Sinn Nachtrieb’s Hunter Gatherers, which will be performed downstairs in the mainstage at the Adrienne. Stay tuned for more information about events and discount offers surrounding these productions.

Then it’s the return of the holiday show Philadelphia can’t seem to get enough of – The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris, adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello, running December 3-20, 2009. Derick Loafmann will don the candy cane leggings one more time as Crumpet, the department store elf with a heart made of scotch.

Finally Flashpoint closes its mainstage season with the Philadelphia premiere of Sheila Callaghan’s Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake), directed by Producing Artistic Director Michael Osinski, running April 15-May 8, 2010. In a dilapidated apartment, just one year after her father’s death, 11-year-old Janice has found the key to bringing her family back together – pop superstar Justin Timberlake. The production will feature Flashpoint founder Gigi Naglak, Flashpoint favorites Sara Madden and David Stanger, and Flashpoint newcomers Amanda Grove and Matt Hultgren.

This season Flashpoint will also initiate a program devoted to the development of new work – Flashpoint DNA: Dynamic New Art. Led by Flashpoint founder Meghann Williams, a team of Philadelphia theatre artists – including 2009 Barrymore nominee Keith Conallen – will explore their deepest fears to develop a brand new work from scratch and present it at two different points in the development process – November 16, 2009, and May 3, 2010.

In addition, Flashpoint's outreach program will expand to include talkbacks with playwrights Nachtrieb and Callaghan (pending confirmation), a special Blogger Night performance, and partnerships with Science on Tap and Temple University's GenEd Philadelphia Experience Passport.

Season subscriptions run between $35 and $45 and single tickets run between $5 and $18. For more information or to purchase subscriptions and tickets visit Flashpoint's website at www.flashpointtheatre.org or call our box office at 215-665-9720.
