Third Time's the Charm for BCKSEET: THE EIGHT: REINDEER MONOLOGUES
For Immediate Release: November 6, 2008
November 6, 2008 - BCK for its third smash year, Society Hill Playhouse remounts BCKSEET's successful holiday run of The Eight: Reindeer Monologues this December as Santa remounts some of his old employees at the toyshop. Written by Jeff Goode - creator of the provocative MTV's "Undressed," this sardonically irreverent black comedy follows eight disgruntled deer as they unpack Santa's baggage: presents, intoxication and leather straps. The show previews on black Friday, November 28th at 8PM, opens Thursday, December 4th at 8PM and runs Thursdays to Saturdays throughout December, culminating in two special New Year's Eve performance on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. All performances will take place at the Society Hill Playhouse's Red Room located at 507 S. 8th Street in Philadelphia. $21 tickets include one drink and are available through the Society Hill Playhouse's box office at 215.923.0210 or online at www.comcasttix.com. Seating is general admission, with group sales available for parties of eight or more. Salt licks are best enjoyed by 18+; leave the fawns at home. The 2008 - 2009 Season marks BCKSEET's first as a REPERTORY COMPANY in which nine actors will portray all nineteen roles throughout the season. The Eight boasts all of the Repertory Company members in one holiday extravaganza. Two of the eight deer will reprise their roles from last season with the production welcoming five new actors to the cast as well as one special guest artist, Melissa Lynch. Oscar Dubón, and Kate Brennan will jump back in the harness for the third year in their original roles as Comet and Dancer. New EIGHT cast members Tina Brock, Andrew Borthwick-Leslie, Nick Gillette, G DeCandia, and Josh Totora will join the cast as Blitzen, Donner, Dasher, Hollywood, and Cupid, respectively. Steven Wright directs following his run as an actor/writer for 1812's hit show: This Is the Week That Is. Each member of the REP SEASON involved with The Eight will appear elsewhere in the season. Borthwick-Leslie, Dubon, and Gillette just completed a critically acclaimed run of Lee Blessing's thought-provoking Lake Street Extension, and Gillette, Brennan, Totora, and Eight director, Steven Wright, will tackle Nicky Silver's dark comedy Raised in Captivity this spring under the direction of Hollywood - otherwise known as BCKSEET's Artistic Director, G DeCandia. BCKSEET is a small theatre company with a big attitude, offering competitive programming in education, outreach, and new works. Our second annual fall fundraiser of The Wall brought out more patrons than our first production in 2007, and this winter promises to expand BCKSEET's programming offerings in a special collaboration with Society Hill Playhouse's New Works Festival. After The Eight, the REP COMPANY will mount two more full-length shows: Eric Bogosian's candid Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll and Nicky Silver's tragically comedic Raised in Captivity. The 2008 production of The Eight is guaranteed to be the most irresistibly inappropriate yet. Tickets are already on sale. Join the BCKSEET family for the holidays: If the holidays drive you to drink, welcome home.
