11th Hour Theatre Company Presents Reefer Madness By Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney - A "joint" production with Montgomery Theater For Immediate Release: August 29, 2008
Inspired by the original 1936 propaganda film of the same name, this hilarious musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when good, wholesome kids fall prey to marijuana. With musical numbers that range from Broadway Showstoppers to the Vegas-style “Listen to Jesus Jimmy”, featuring J.C. himself, you won’t be able to resist this “Hit” musical. Past credits include Phantom (Flora/Christine Understudy) at the New Candlelight Theatre along with Seussical the Musical (Gertrude) and West Side Story (Somewhere Girl) at the Papermill Theatre. Laura Catlaw (Placard Girl) is very excited to be back in PA, direct from the first National Tour of The Backyardigans Live with Nickelodeon (Tasha). This is her first show with Montgomery Theater. She last worked with 11th Hour on their production of 6 of 1 (Kate). Laura has worked throughout the Philadelphia area at several regional theatres and is a proud member of AEA. Much love to George and her entire family. Tom DelPizzo (Ralph) being from Chalfont, is excited to come back to his hometown. An actor/director, Jennie was most recently seen in Broadway Baby at Bristol Riverside Theatre and Songs for a New World at Act II Playhouse (Best Actress in a Musical honorable mention in Philadelphia Weekly). Laura Giknis (Mary) is making her debut at Montgomery Theater and is thrilled to be in one of her all time favorite shows! She just graduated with honors from West Chester with a visual and performing arts degree, nominated twice for the Irene Ryan Award in Excellence in Acting. Laura would like to thank her always amazing family especially her mom and dad and unconditionally supporting boyfriend Dave. She would also like to thank the fantastic cast and crew! We are 'high' on life! Alex Keiper (Sally) is thrilled to be working on such an amazing show with an amazing cast and crew. Noah Mazaika (Jimmy) is grateful to be working with 11th Hour Theatre Company again. Steve Pacek (The Lecturer) is a co-founder and artistic associate of 11th Hour Theatre Co. and is so excited to be working on this "joint" production with Montgomery Theater. Megan Nicole O’Brien (Director) is honored to work with such an unbelievable cast, designers, staff, and Tom, Hope and Mike on such a crazy show! Dan Kazemi (Musical Director) graduated from Haverford College with a B.A. in Music Composition and a theater minor. Dan musically directed tick..tick...Boom!, Austentatious, the PhillyRocks! concerts, and The World Goes Round (Barrymore Nomination) for 11th Hour Theatre Co.; the DC premiere of Musical of Musicals: The Musical (Helen Hayes Nom.) and Walnuts Street's The Irish and How They Got That Way. His music has been performed at Cirque de Demain in Paris and the debut of LooseScrews, a contemporary tap company. Keep an eye out for Dan's new musical, The Tapioca Miracle. Samuel Antonio Reyes (Choreographer) earned his BFA from the University of the Arts (Cushman Acting Award, Theater Ensemble Award). Studied dance under Ronen Koresh and Renni Harris and eventually worked with many respected Philadelphia artists: Charles O. Anderson (Dance Theater X), Kate Watson-Wallace (Montazh Performing Arts Co.), Myra Bazell (Pal Joey, Prince Music Theatre). Freelance collaborations: Luna Theater, Cat Scratch Theater, Le Cabaret Melange (w/ Jeffery Marsh), Zen One Dance Collective. Nominated for a 2007 Barrymore Award for Best Choreography (Bombity of Errors, 11th Hour Theatre Company). Artist-in-residence at Muhlenburg College (06-08). Currently the Artistic Director of Sanbrooka Productions. John Hobbie (Scenic Designer) is a set designer and artist living in New Jersey. He is very proud to be working with Montgomery Theater and 11th Hour on such an educational, entertaining and enlightening production. John received his BFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of North Texas in 1995 and his MFA in Set Design from Southern Methodist University in 2005. He studied art abroad in Europe and has worked in Hong Kong as a teacher and artist. John is a member of the United Scenic Artist Local 829 NYC, The New Jersey Theater Alliance, and The Greater Philadelphia Theater Alliance. Lauren Perigard (Costume Designer) is thrilled to be back with the 11th Hour dream team! She has been designing professionally in Philly for 3 years after receiving a BFA in costume design from SUNY Fredonia and apprenticing in the costume shop of the Walnut Street Theatre for the 05-06 season. Her favorite designs include Bomb-itty of Errors with the 11th Hour Theatre Co. and The Wiz at Upper Darby High School. She currently is the costume shop manager/wardrobe supervisor for the Media Theatre. Big thankx to Megan for making my musical theatre dreams come true!!! Peter D. Leonard (Lighting Designer) has lit over 250 productions for theaters and dance companies nationwide. At Montgomery Theater he designed this season's Picnic and last year's hit musical The Full Monty. New York designs for original musicals: The Deciders at NY International Fringe Festival, Saddamn: The Musical for Smoke That Thunders, pre-Broadway workshop of In My Life for Joe Brooks, The Last American at Joe’s Pub and Clark Gesner’s Animal Fair NY premiere. Perry Award nomination: Children of Eden MOC Musicals. Multiple US and European tours lighting Dance Theatre of Harlem. Mark Valenzuela (Sound Designer) is thrilled to design his sixth show for 11th Hour and first for Montgomery Theater. He has designed sound for a number of theatres in the area including 1812 Productions, Delaware Theatre Company, Act II Playhouse and Walnut Street Theatre’s Studio 3. He was a part of 11th Hour’s Barrymore Award winning ensemble in The Bomb-itty of Errors, and was nominated for Outstanding Sound Design for their production of tick, tick…BOOM! Thanks all! Jackie Robinson (Stage Manager) is a recent graduate from the Applied Theatre Arts program at University of the Arts. She is thrilled to be part of Reefer Madness and a new member of AEA. Previous credits include Into the Woods, Urinetown-the Musical, Beauty and the Beast, Hair and The Rocky Horror Show, among others.
