The Media Theatre has a Lerner and Loewe classic, orphan boys, a male vocal group, Elvis, and Modern Millie on its stage for the 2008-09 season.

Artistic Director Jesse Cline, who recently announced the season which begins in October , said, “The musicals chosen represent classic family fare, a fun musical for the winter months, and a recent Broadway show which focuses on Elvis Presley’s biggest hits. It promises to appeal to all ages, and showcases why we have won over a dozen Readers Poll Awards as “Best Live Theatre” from local newspapers.”

The season begins October 1 with the title audiences may recall was the first musical production at Media Theatre following its rebirth as a live performing arts center fourteen years ago. “My Fair Lady” returns through November 2. Based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, the story of the young lady who learns how to be ‘proper’ features one of the most beloved scores of all time (“I Could Have Danced All Night”, “On The Street Where You Live”). The revival of the Tony winning musical is sponsored by Mr. Walter Strine, Sr., of Media.

For the holidays, Charles Dickens’ classic family tale “Oliver!” brings all of his wonderful characters to State Street. The orphan boys, Fagin, and the Artful Dodger will sing and dance December 3-January 4. The delightful score features songs such as “Food Glorious Food”, “Consider Yourself”, and “As Long As He Needs Me”.

In 2009, from January 28-February 15, Media presents a Philadelphia professional premiere with “Altar Boyz”. The long running Off-Broadway musical is a hilarious romp during an ‘actual’ concert of a Christian boy band from Ohio, with a score that mirrors popular songs of today. “This upbeat musical will leave audiences smiling,” Cline explained.

From March 11-April 5, it’s Elvis’ biggest hits combined with Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night for the rockin’ and rollin’ high-energy musical “All Shook Up”. A young Midwestern girl falls for a leather jacketed cyclist in the 1950’s during the second of Media’s three area professional premieres.

A recent Tony Award winner for Best Musical, “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, plays May 6-June 7. Based on Julie Andrew’s hit film, the show highlights Millie’s move to Manhattan to ‘meet a beau’. Filled with frisky flappers and handsome leading men, this musical will have audiences doing the Charleston!

The Media Theatre, at 104 East State Street, will engage and inspire once more as it heads into its eighth season as a non-profit professional music theatre. Cline stated, “We will continue to utilize only the best performers from New York City and the Philadelphia region to assist us in fulfilling our goal of presenting top-notch work right here in Delaware County. It’s professional theatre with Broadway talent, live orchestras, and uniquely designed sets and costumes. Nothing we present is a tour or a package, as it is all created by those of us at the theatre. We hope to see you there and we know you will have a great time.”
