The Ritz Theatre presents Oscar Wilde's comedy The Importance of Being Earnest For Immediate Release: March 31, 2008
The Ritz Theatre presents Oscar Wilde’s comedy “The Importance of Being Earnest” at the historic Ritz Theatre, 915 White Horse Pike, Arts District, Haddon Township, NJ. It was first performed for the public in 1895 at the Saint James Theatre in London. Oscar Wilde’s play is a sparkling comedy of manners with a witty outlook on the seriousness of society among the Victorian upper class. Its main source of humour is based on the character Ernest, Jack Worthing’s fictitious brother. Jack uses the invented a brother as an excuse to leave his dull life behind to visit the ravishing Gwendolyn. Worthing and his good friend Algernon find themselves in a ridiculous situation after their fiance's learn they are coincidentally engaged to the same man. Cast members include: Bruce A. Michael of Sinking Spring, PA. as Merriman and Lane. C.J. Sikorski of Audubon as Algernon Moncrieff, Albert Parker of Camden as Dr. Chausable and Al Fuchs of Haddon Heights as Jack Worthing.
