For Immediate Release: February 15, 2008
Media Contact: Katie Driscoll, Simpatico Theatre Project, 215.423.0254

This spring, Simpatico Theatre Project will conclude its third season exploring the causes and consequences of violence, with their production of Marsha Norman’s Getting Out, directed by Carol Laratonda. Performances will be held at Second Stage at the Adrienne from March 7th to the 30th. Tickets are $12 in advance (online at www.simpaticotheatre.org) or $15 at the door. For group sales or questions, call 215-423-0254.

Why walk the line if you can work the street and earn a week’s pay in a few hours? Arlene prostituted her body and battled all authority figures. She was hateful, destructive, and nearly beyond redemption. After serving eight years for manslaughter, she is finally beyond the prison walls. But her mother will never trust her. Bennie and Carl both want to possess her. She is haunted by the girl she used to be and the life she once had. Unless she can escape the temptation and doubt, she may be out, but she isn’t free.

About our Nonprofit Partner
As part of our mission, Simpatico Theatre Project partners with nonprofit organizations that focus on issues relevant to our productions, with the intention of giving our audiences a forum to learn more and help create change. For Getting Out we will be partnering with The Pennsylvania Prison Society. The Pennsylvania Prison Society is a social justice organization that supports and campaigns for prisoners, formerly incarcerated individuals and their families. Founded in 1787, they provide services for prisoners such as parenting skills education classes, access to restorative justice resources and support to elder prisoners in state and county correctional facilities. The Pennsylvania Prison Society provides community programming such as support groups for children with incarcerated parents and re-entry programs for ex-offenders. They help families stay connected during periods of incarceration with affordable transportation to prisons and video conferencing. They also inform the public about prison issues with lectures, forums and written publications. Simpatico is excited to hold a post-show discussion as part of our Simpatico Partner Panel Series with members of the Pennsylvania Prison Society after our Sunday, March 16th 2:00pm performance. Participating members from The Pennsylvania Prison Society are William M. DiMascio, Executive Director, Ronald L. Cuie, Board Member, Cameron Holmes, Life Skills Educator/Job Coach, and Pamela P. Superville, Job Developer/Life Skills Educator. This exciting event is sponsored by Whole Foods Market. For more information on The Pennsylvania Prison Society please visit their website at prisonsociety.org.

About the Company
Simpatico Theatre Project began four years ago when five young theatre artists decided to focus their work on the connection between theatrical productions involving social issues and organizations that actively seek solutions to community problems. They crafted Simpatico’s unique mission to create socially conscious theatre and partner each show with local nonprofit organizations and advocacy groups. Since Simpatico’s first performance in Philadelphia, they have made a name for themselves through quality performances and as active members of the community. Each Simpatico member regularly volunteers, and we have been involved with such organizations as the New Voters’ Project, Equality Advocates, WAVE (Women Anti-Violence Education), Center for Grieving Children, Teens, and Families, American Red Cross, Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania and more.
