For Immediate Release: February 7, 2008
Media Contact: BCKSEET Productions, 215.923.0210

Only one week until the night we all love to hate – do you have a Valentine? February 14th marks BCKSEET's 4th annual fundraiser, Valentine's Day Sucks…4/ A Singer Songwriter Competition. Come watch local artists battle it out for the chance to be on top on Hallmark's favorite holiday. Valentine's Day Sucks 4… benefits BCKSEET Productions' 2008-2009 season, which will be announced as part of the evening's festivities.

The party on Valentine's Day starts at 8 PM at the Society Hill Playhouse's Red Room located at 507 S. 8th St. in Philadelphia. Musical acts take the stage at 9 PM. Tickets are $25 and include a drink from the Red Room's bar, a compilation CD of Valentine's Day Sucks artists, as well as a raffle ticket for a variety of drawings. Tickets are available at the Society Hill Playhouse or by calling 215.923.0210. The evening will be hosted by Philly's own Steven Wright, star of 1812 Productions' hit This Is The Week That Is. Various aspiring Philadelphia singer-songwriters will offer up their candy hearts in the competition.

Graham Brown splits his time between Philadelphia, PA and Phoenix, AZ. His two indie hits, "Blind" and "I Want You" have been played on WXPN 88.5 in Philadelphia. Want more info about this dual-stater? Visit www.myspace.com/grahambrown or www.grahambrown.net.

Cello maestro DeJesus wows with his acoustic/alternative/rock cello licks all over Philly. Most recently seen at the World Live Café, DeJesus was also a featured artist for the kick-off of Triumph Brewery's Live –Unplugged! Watch him take a bow: www.myspace.com/danieldejesus or www.danieldejesus.com.

Multi-instrumentalist Mary Bichner of Box Five Music is breaking out and breaking in her instruments around Philadelphia. With skills on piano, flute, guitar and vocals, her song "Nice Boy/Blow My Cover" was selected as WXPN's'pick of the day' last month. Break out of the box and check out: www.myspace.com/boxfivemusic or www.boxfive.org.

Actor, director, dramaturg and song-master, Greg Pica is the penultimate renaissance man. With his tenacious performance in BCKSEET's Hung on a Blonde Ponytail last year as conflicted rocker Josh, we are thrilled to have him back performing his own tunes.

Youngster and regular NYC Bitter End-er, Amanda Thorpe rocks the indie/folk/acoustic world and has won numerous awards in songwriting. A member of the NYC singer-songwriters Club, and the best part of being underage: www.myspace.com/amandagthorpe.

Bridging the gap between alternative rock and singer-songwriter, Andrew Lipke credits Bach, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and The Shins as his musical mentors. Pucker up with Lipke: www.myspace.com/andrewlipke or www.andrewlipke.com.

If you aren't in love by the time the competition is over, you will be when last year's winner Alex Radus takes the stage. Radus has played across America and throughout the city at prestigious venues such as the Tin Angel, Milkboy Coffee House and World Café Live. He has shared the stage with talents Nellie McKay, Regina Spektor, Lach and Chris Barron. With a palpable undercurrent of Jack Johnson, the boyish mischief of Jason Mraz, and the knee-weakening lilts of G. Love, Alex Radus will bring a definite climax to the evening. www.alexradus.com

Valentine's Day Sucks 4…promises to be a hot and heavy evening of fabulous music, prizes and fun. Because we at BCKSEET believe that on Valentine's Day everyone deserves a happing ending.
