Kids of all ages are invited to Delaware's Barrymore Award-Winning, Off-Broadway Theater for a very zany take on some favorite fairytales! Wilmington’s City Theater Company’s Community Series presents Goldilocks and A Hill of Magic Beans by award-winning playwright Matt Casarino. For Immediate Release: January 21, 2008
The young and the young at heart are invited to City Theater Company’s popular Community Series (Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland) with Matt Casarino’s original comedies Goldilocks and A Hill of Magic Beans, opening Saturday, March 1st and running through Sunday, March 16rd. Shows to be performed in CTC’s new black box space: OperaDelaware Studios at 4 South Poplar Street on the Wilmington waterfront. Directors Georgiana Staley and George Tietze promise a very CTC take on the typical “children’s” theatrical experience—one that will be fast-paced, wildly funny, and thoroughly entertaining for both kids and adults. Playwright Matt Casarino is thrilled to be working with CTC on this project, citing the troupe’s “ really interesting approach to their theatre by and for children. They’re not afraid of pushing envelopes in both content and style, and I think that shows how much confidence they have in both their casts and their audience.” Both plays turn the typical fairytales on their proverbial heads. Remember that rather pushy little towhead, charged with breaking and entering (not to mention larceny?) Well she’s back as a charming brunette in Goldilocks—accompanied not just by three bears of various size but by her overbearing mother, a kid in a red cape, a species-exchange student, and some mad scientists. And as for Jack (of beanstalk and giants fame) in A Hill of Magic Beans, it’s all about the intrigue of the Fairytale Wars, a mysteriously suave man and his milk bar, and a roundup of unusual suspects like Humpty Dumpty, three not-too-smart billy goats, and Ingrid Bergman. These family comedies enchant with great dialogue, fun characters, and imaginative staging. Casarino designed it so. “While the kids are entertained by the silliness and story, there are lots of jokes and bits aimed right at the older crowd.” So bring the whole family, and laugh happily ever after! ALL AGES. TICKET INFO: $12 Adults, $8 Children. General Admission. Tickets may be purchased NOW at www.city-theater.org. Seating is limited so grab yours today!
