Bristol Riverside Theatre Presents Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge, November 13-December 2, 2007 For Immediate Release: November 1, 2007
Bristol Riverside Theatre continues its twenty-first Mainstage season with Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge, November 13- December 2, 2007. Commissioned by the City Theatre in Pittsburgh in 2002, the play is by satirist Christopher Durang, with song lyrics by Durang and music by Michael Friedman. The production will be directed by BRT Artistic Director Keith Baker. Without ruining all the twists and turns of this frenetic romp, ask yourself: What if Scrooge was visited by a Ghost of Christmas who couldn't keep her magic from malfunctioning? What if Mrs. Bob Cratchit actually despised her life? How would a humbug cope if planted in The Gift of the Magi, It's a Wonderful Life or Touched by an Angel? Mrs. Cratchit offers holiday hilarity that is certain to surprise, and will make you wonder how much rum is in your Eggnog. Christopher Durang, a Bucks County, PA resident, is probably best known for his plays Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it All for You, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Baby With the Bathwater, and Beyond Therapy. He wrote the book and lyrics for Adrift in Macao which premiered at the Philadelphia Theatre Company in 2005 (nominated for a Barrymore Award), and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical in 1978 for A History of the American Film. Since 1994 he has been co-chair with Marsha Norman of the Playwriting Program at the Juilliard School in Manhattan. A handful of BRT veterans lead the cast of sixteen in the lampooning. Jo Twiss, playing the title role of Gladys Cratchit will be joined by Kenneth Boys (Ebenezer Scrooge), John Little (Bob Cratchit), Demetria Joyce Bailey (The Ghosts of Christmas), and Anthony D'Amato (Mr. Fezziwig). The production will be choreographed by Gregory Daniels who just finished BRT's I do! I do!, with scenic design by Greg Mitchell (BRT's The Skin of Our Teeth, 2004), costume design by Linda Bee Stockton (BRT's Holiday and Olympus on My Mind), lighting design by Jeffrey E. Salzberg. Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge is not recommended for children under 13.
