Wissahickon Fire Company Reaps Benefits of Act II Show For Immediate Release: October 22, 2007
Act II Playhouse and the Wissahickon Fire Company joined forces on September 10 and 11 for a special presentation of Anne Nelson’s powerful reality-based drama “The Guys”, a story about the brave New York City fireman raising $750.00 in donations for the Fire Company. “The Guys” is a play based on the Playwright’s own experiences of helping a New York Fire Captain write eulogies for some of his men, who were lost on September 11. The play featured readings by professional actors Sally Mercer and Charles Roney, himself a longtime volunteer firefighter. The eulogies were read by Wissahickon firefighters Frank Talese, Steve Yannis, Joel Homan and Anthony Minio. Jeanette Talese, of the Ambler Symphony, led a string ensemble, which provided musical accompaniment for the play. The Wissahickon Fire Company IS donating a portion of the money to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in Emmitsburg, MD. The foundation honors America’s fallen heroes by sharing how they lived and what they meant to their loved ones, their community and the nation. More information about the foundations can be found at www.firehero.org. Act II Playhouse and the Wissahickon Fire Company plan on making the presentation of “The Guys” an annual event on September 11 to honor those lost but never forgotten.
