B. Someday Productions Presents Premiere Family Theatre Series for Community of Fishtown/Kensington/N. Liberties and Beyond

For Immediate Release: October 21, 2007
Media Contact: Michelle Pauls, B. Someday Productions at The Walking Fish Theatre, 215.427.2822

B. Someday Productions, with new home at The Walking Fish Theatre, is proud to announce the premiere performance of the Family Theatre Series on Saturday, November 3, 2007 starting at 11:00AM. The Family Theatre Series is an interactive, literature-based performance program for young children (ages 2-7) and their caregivers. The premiere performance will take place in the lobby of Hyperion Bank, 2nd & Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, 19123. The cost is a sliding fee: $1-$10, whatever you feel you can afford.

The Family Theatre Series will feature two professional actors bringing great children’s stories to life. "Where the Wild Things Are" will be featured at this first performance. The children in the audience are encouraged to participate by acting out the characters with their bodies and their voices. After the performance session, there will be a short discussion with the children and adults then the children will be invited to make a simple handicraft relating to the stories, such as paper bag puppets. The caregivers will be presented with a worksheet with other related story titles and ways to make reading fun for their little ones. The program will culminate with a healthy snack.

Partners with B. Someday for The Family Theatre Series are the Neighborhood Parenting Program of By My Side, a non-profit parenting program active in the Fishtown neighborhood, and Hyperion Bank of 2nd & Girard. "I think this is a great way to introduce the neighborhood kids and their parents to an exciting alternative to literacy," said Teri Ramsay, Director of By My Side and Educational Partner for The Family Theatre Series. Teri will lead the discussion and handicraft part of the program.

The Family Theatre Series will happen on the first Saturday of every month, until May, 2008 as part of B. Someday’s outreach into the community of Fishtown/Kensington. The second Family Theatre Series performance will be on Saturday, December 1 at The Walking Fish Theatre, 2509 Frankford Avenue. This program was made possible through the 5-County Arts Fund, a Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts program of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. It is funded by the citizens of Pennsylvania through an annual legislative appropriation, and administered locally by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. The PA Council on the Arts is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and also supported by PECO.

The Walking Fish Theatre is the new performance/workshop space for the community of Fishtown/Kensington. The theatre opened its doors for the first time ever this past August 31 as a host for three different performance troupes during the 11th Annual Philly Fringe Festival. Other upcoming offerings at The Walking Fish include Fresh Fish, a 10-minute play festival and the Benefit Cabaret with local talent.
