Arden Theatre Company announced its 2007/08 Children's Theatre Season comprised of two wonderful plays for families with children. The first show, Sleeping Beauty, will be performed December 5, 2007 through January 27, 2008. The second family show will be the musical Go, Dog. Go! performed April 16 through June 1, 2008. Join us at our award-winning theatre in the heart of vibrant, historic Old City Philadelphia and find out why Philadelphia magazine declared the Arden "The Best of Philly" for children's theatre this year (for the third time!) and the Please Touch Museum presented the Arden with a "Great Friend to Kids" award. The 2007/08 Arden Children's Theatre Season: Sleeping Beauty By Charles Way Directed by Whit MacLaughlin December 5, 2007 - January 27, 2008 On the Haas Stage Once upon a time...get ready! Here comes a modern, funnier version of one of your favorite tales. Meet our smart and independent Princess, a girl named Briar Rose (a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty) and Gryff, her sidekick half-dragon with big dreams. There's Branwen, the friendly witch who tries to outspell evil Modron. And there's a Prince of course – Owain, a regal boy with standard princely attributes, minus the bravery, talent and competence. It's a twist on the story you remember, right through to the happily-ever-after. In between is a magical adventure, replete with troublesome fairies, a Spider King, and a dashing sword fight! Will Briar Rose's parents grant her the freedom she craves? Can Owain manage his fears, do the right thing, and please his father? Boys and girls five years and older will love the Arden's fresh take on the classic; it's a perfect story for families to share this holiday season. Sleeping Beauty is proudly sponsored by PECO Energy. Go, Dog. Go! By Allison Gregory and Steven Dietz Based on the book by P.D. Eastman Music by Michael Koerner April 16 - June 1, 2008 On the Arcadia Stage It's a musical world of doggy fun. Big dogs, little dogs, red dogs, blue dogs, green dogs, black dogs and white dogs. Dogs all over the place. A dog with a hat. Dogs playing. Working. Resting. Dogs up in trees. Dogs in and out of zoom, HONK! cars, cars and more cars. A canine extravaganza for the whole family. It's buckets of bliss, wonder, and discovery. With music. You're gonna howl, kids. Howl! Boys and girls ages four and older (well, until they get too cool!) will love the Arden's fresh take on P.D. Eastman's beloved book; it's a perfect story for families to share. Please note that there are no live animals actually in the production! Both family productions feature a question and answer session with the cast after every performance plus each child receives a free commemorative poster after the show.
