Nice People Theatre Company Brings Philadelphia Premiere to 2007 Philly Fringe

For Immediate Release: August 2, 2007
Media Contact: Carrie Gorn, for Nice People Theatre Company, 215.480.7423

Nice People Theatre Company will present the Philadelphia Premiere of Marisa Wegrzyn’s Killing Women, September 6-9 at the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival, 2111 Sansom St., Center City, as part of the 2007 Philly Fringe. Tickets cost $15 and are available by calling the Fringe box-office at 215-413-1318 or online at www.livearts-fringe.org.

Refreshingly biting, sometimes darkly comical, and brutally honest, Killing Women focuses on three women in the murder-for-hire trade. Abby is working on a promotion, Lucy is working on her latest relationship, and Gwen has a week to learn the business or she is about to become one of its next targets. Together, they tackle a world of guns, broken kneecaps, family issues and the glass ceiling with the sass and smarts of modern women.

Nice People Theatre Company founders Miriam White and Nicole Blicher play Gwen and Lucy. Jordan Stalsworth appears as Abby. Pat DeFusco, Chris Fluck, and Ben Stanley play the men in their lives while Nice People Company Member Bill Felty directs.

Playwright Marisa Wegrzyn recently made her NYC debut Off-Broadway with The Butcher of Baraboo at Second Stage Theatre. That play was developed through Steppenwolf Theatre's First Look Repertory in 2006. She is a founding member and resident playwright of Theatre Seven of Chicago.

“We know Marisa, and we are big fans of her work and this play in particular,” said Blicher. “It is a sharp-witted dark comedy about female assassins with a plenty of laughs written into the mix and very distinct and fun characters. It's not a heavy show. Audiences can sit back and enjoy it.”

Added White, “It's rare to find a play with one let alone three strong female characters. Killing Women is a female-character driven play written by an up and coming female playwright. It is exciting to present work like this.”
