City Theater Company proves that you can go home again!

For Immediate Release: August 2, 2007

City Theater Company, Delaware’s Off-Broadway, announces a return to their old stomping grounds at OperaDelaware Studios, located at 4 S. Poplar Street on the Wilmington waterfront.

It’s back to basics—fresh, fearless, fun, in-your-face theater—as CTC takes over the newly renovated space. Although the company’s formative years were spent downtown at the plush Baby Grand, a proscenium-style theater, members feel its artistic mission and unique style are best served in a more intimate setting. OperaDelaware Studios offers flexible staging and seating, so that productions may be presented in the round as well as more traditionally. CTC’s Producing Artistic Director Michael Gray hopes the move will better serve the company’s mission, which is “to create a body of work that takes risks and breaks barriers in order to engage new theater audiences in an exciting exchange of ideas, images and energies.”

CTC’s first production at OperaDelaware Studios takes place on October 13, 2007 with THE SEX PLAYS: CTC's 2007 BENEFIT SHOW & CARNIVAL. This special event showcases City Theater Company’s signature style with an evening of original and outrageous 10-minute plays. The accompanying carnival will feature grown-up goodies like food, drink, a kissing booth, a silent auction, personalized mating dances, and more.

The good times continue rolling in December, when the original tribal-love-rock musical HAIR is staged in the round. Two original works by nationally acclaimed Wilmington playwrights round out CTC’s exciting 2007-2008 season. The CTC Community Series presents Matt Casarino’s laugh-riot take on the children’s classic GOLDILOCKS in February. Drury Pifer’s political farce HOMELAND SECURITY makes its world premiere in April.
