The roads are closed. Nobody is getting in or out. A group of strangers, each at a critical turning point in their lives, will test their faith in their careers, in their relationships, and in themselves while stranded at a lonely little church on a remote Navajo reservation. Will they continue along the same path, or will one day change their course forever?
***
Following an accident at a uranium mine in Northwest New Mexico, two couples find themselves stranded at a church in the middle of a desert. They interrupt an argument between Don Tabaha, a young half-Navajo doctor who is leaving for a job at a wealthy cancer institute in California, and his priest, Father Doherty, who wants him to stay on the reservation and help his people. With Don temporarily stranded, his gut-wrenching decision incites debate and discovery for all the characters of the play, each struggling to find their own path. Professor Niles Harris and his wife Vita are traveling to a psychiatric institute after his dramatic emotional breakdown in front of his class. Marion Clay is tying up her recently deceased husband’s assets while traveling with her new boyfriend, Zappy, a young professional tennis player. Angels Fall is a play about deciding how you choose to spend the time you have on this earth. After all, you never know when it might be too late.
About our Non Profit Partnership
Simpatico Theatre Project’s mission is to present theatre that encourages our audience to realize that awareness alone will not solve problems. To this end we partner with nonprofit organizations that focus on issues relevant to our productions. For Angels Fall we are looking forward to partnering with organizations that help bring health care and education to low income communities, which is one of the many themes in this multifaceted play. Look for updates on our future nonprofit partner and exiting events on our website at www.simpaticotheatre.org.
Other Events
Simpatico Theatre Project believes that theatre should be available to all different types of audience members and is working towards creating access to their productions for patrons with disabilities. Since their last production, Patient A, Simpatico has been building a relationship with Creative Access to produce ASL interpreted performances. For Angels Fall we are fortunate to provide an ASL performance on Friday, March 16th at 8:00pm through the collaboration of Creative Access and our Access Sponsor, Replica.
About the Company
Simpatico Theatre Project originated two years ago when five young theatre artists decided that they wanted to focus their work on the connection between a theatrical production involving social issues and organizations that actively seek solutions to community problems. They created Simpatico’s unique mission to create socially conscious theatre and partner each show with local nonprofit organizations and advocacy groups. Since Simpatico’s first performance in Philadelphia, they have made a name for themselves through quality performances and as active members of the community. Each Simpatico member regularly volunteers, and we have been involved with such organizations as New Voter’s Project, Equality Advocates, WAVE (Women Anti-Violence Education), Center for Grieving Children, Teens, and Families, Red Cross, Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania and more.
