Are you tired of slaving over the barbeque? Have summer reruns stopped ticking your funny bone? Let Footlighters Theater whet your appetite for fine dining and comedy when it presents Nick Hall’s “Eat Your Heart Out” to open its 78th season on September 8.

Meet Charlie. He’s a young, out-of-work actor who’s waiting tables in Manhattan — and for his big break. Restaurant to restaurant he hops, as he meets a cast of eccentric city folk whose lives intertwine with his. An angry man who does more than just sing for his supper, an oyster-fearing singleton, and an ivy league couple more interested in studying anatomy than the menu, name just a few. The action is uninterrupted, and the wit is sharp in this stunning comedy. You’ll laugh until you cry, and you may even cry along with Charlie a little bit, too.

For this production, Footlighters teamed up with Main Line eateries who donated gift certificates. These gift certificates will be raffled during intermissions at the Friday and Saturday evening performances (September 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23). Chances are $1 each for 10 for $5. Raffle winners will receive their certificate and a menu to help prepare for their night out on the town. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Footlighters Theater building fund.

Participating in the raffle are Fellini Cafe Trattoria, Main Street Cafe, Trattoria San Nicola (all of Berwyn), Basil Bistro (Malvern), and Tango (Bryn Mawr).

“Eat Your Heart Out” opens on Sept. 8, with performances at 8 p.m. on Sept. 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, and 23. Matinee performances will occur at 2 p.m. on Sept. 10 and 17. All tickets are $12, payable by cash or check only at the box office. Reservations are encouraged. All performances will be held at Footlighters Theater, which is located at 58 Main Ave., Berwyn, Pa. Parking is available along Main Ave. or across the street at St. Monica’s Catholic Church.
