Act II Casts Nationwide Net for Special Actor For Immediate Release: July 18, 2006 Act II Playhouse has engaged the services of Casting Director Mike Lemon to find a wheelchair-dependent professional actor/singer to share the lead in the 2006-07 season production of “I Sent a Letter to My Love”. Lemon, who is based in Philadelphia, expects to issue calls to actors both in this region, New York City and Los Angeles. “We will send the information to over 7000 actors as well as cover all the usual industry channels,” Lemon said. Act II’s Producing Artistic Director Steve Blumenthal and Managing Director David-Michael Kenney are anxious to cast a wheelchair-dependent actor in this play based in 1955 and written by Jeffrey Sweet and Melissa Manchester. Blumenthal explains that the play centers on a woman who, on a whim, places a fictitious-name correspondence ad, but her notion of romance backfires when wheelchair-dependent brother is her only respondent. Just when all seems to get completely out of hand, longing, love and loyalty conspire to open new doors. Kenney has met with Ms. Manchester who expressed her full support for casting a wheelchair dependent actor, since that had not been the case in previous productions in New York and Los Angeles. This play will be the fifth offering of the coming season, with previews beginning on May 11. Season and individual tickets for the 2006-07 season are now on sale.
