1812 Productions Presents Eventa du Schmancy, 1812 Productions' annual gala-fundraiser and all-around good time, Monday April 3, 2006 For Immediate Release: March 10, 2006 1812 Productions, Philadelphia’s all comedy theatre company, proudly announces it’s annual gala fundraiser, Eventa du Schmancy. Eventa du Schmancy will take place on Monday, April 3, 2006 at Serrano Restaurant, located at 20 S. 2nd Street in Old City. Located upstairs from Serrano Restaurant is The Tin Angel—a fantastic concert venue and the site of 1812’s Eventa du Schmancy cabaret, “You Must Remember This….” “You Must Remember This…,” will be a showcase of the most famous (and most infamous) movie songs ever. There will be two price levels for the event, The Oscars and The Golden Globes. The Oscars level will take place at 5:30pm—tickets are $150. The Golden Globes level will take place at 9:00pm—tickets are $50. Following the tremendous success of last year’s Eventa du Schmancy, which featured The Bad Song Cabaret, 1812 Productions will venture into the world of music history once again, this time armed with some of the most unforgettable movie songs ever. Featuring songs like Que Sera Sera, Goldfinger, and Fight the Power, “You Must Remember This…” will run the gamut from the greatest instrumental themes, to the power ballads, to the sentimental numbers that call to your subconscious and make you sing along. Hosted by the incomparable David Howey and Maureen Torsney-Weir, “You Must Remember This…” will feature performances by many of your 1812 favorites including Jennifer Childs, Kimberly Rehfuss, Dave Jadico, Jim Ryan, and many more. “We used to jokingly say that 1812 put the "fun" back in "fundraiser,” says Jennifer Childs, 1812’s Artistic Director. “As corny as that sounds, it's true. Last year's Eventa du Schmancy was not only a financial success, but it was also a really wonderful time. This year promises the same—great food, great entertainment, and lots of laughter.” The Oscars ticket level will include cocktails, a delicious three-course dinner at the fabulous Serrano Restaurant and the “You Must Remember This…” cabaret. The Golden Globes ticket level will feature a selection of desserts and appetizers crafted by the amazing chef at Serrano, and admission to a special encore presentation of “You Must Remember This….” Matt Pettigrew, the President of 1812 Productions’ Board of Directors, says, “When we created Eventa du Schmancy last season, we knew we had a good thing on our hands, but no one knew just how good until we saw people’s reactions. As 1812 Productions is committed to comedy, we had a huge opportunity to give the folks who came out to support us a one-of-a-kind evening they would never forget. This was certainly the case with last year’s The Bad Song Cabaret, and I know that “You Must Remember This…” will make this year’s Eventa du Schmancy as remarkable as its predecessor.” Throughout the current season, 1812 Productions has fostered a relationship with Serrano and The Tin Angel through 1812 at the Angel, a monthly comedy cabaret offering produced by 1812 and hosted by The Tin Angel. These one-night-only events have featured new as well as established Philadelphia artists, and have made clear how perfect Serrano and The Tin Angel are for an event like Eventa du Schmancy. As 1812 Productions’ annual gala fundraiser, the purpose of Eventa du Schmancy is to generate funds which will allow 1812 to continue to fulfill its mission of entertaining and educating through comedy—both onstage and in the classroom; hiring and supporting Philadelphia artists; and creating quality theatre that is artistically and economically accessible to our audiences.
