The Power Of Proof At Bristol Riverside Theatre - 2001 Pulitzer And Tony Award Winner Up Next At BRT For Immediate Release: March 3, 2006 Things that are intangible are hard to prove – sanity, love, and faith. David Auburn’s play Proof tests these very issues. Bristol Riverside Theatre is proud to announce that David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play Proof is the next offering at the theatre. Auburn’s play, a family drama that touches the soul, debuted at the Manhattan Theater Club in New York in 2000 and was instantly hailed by critics. In addition to a two-year, sold-out run on Broadway, the play was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play in 2001. Mary Louise Parker also won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Catherine and Daniel Sullivan won for director. Proof was also made into a major motion picture starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jake Gyllenhaal, Hope Davis, and Anthony Hopkins. On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, the daughter of a brilliant but mentally disturbed mathematician, Robert, tries to come to grips with her possible inheritance: his insanity. Complicating matters are one of her father's ex-students, Hal, who wants to search through his papers (103 notebooks full) and her sister from New York, Claire, who returns home to Chicago. Catherine is played by Sabrina Veroczi who appeared at BRT as Marie Louise in My Three Angels. Sabrina most recently was seen onstage in the New York debut of Richard Kalinoski's Beast On the Moon at the Century Center as well as Avalaine in Talley and Son at the Jean Cocteau Repertory, Arlie in Kevin Bacon's workshop of Getting Out at SecondStage, Julie Bell in After Ashley at the Actors' Theatre of Louisville (Humana Fest), Rosa in The Rose Tattoo at The Hangar Theatre, Miss Leighton in Once In A Lifetime at The Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center, and Catherine in A View From the Bridge at the Alley Theatre. Bronwen Coleman plays Catherine’s sister Claire. Bronwen who was born in Melbourne, Australia, has worked with The New York Theatre Workshop, The Ensemble Studio Theater, Center Stage New York, and The Actor’s Studio. Her film and TV credits include: Sweetbreads, Capote, Mona Lisa Smile, and Law and Order Criminal Intent. Last year Bronwen’s solo show Mrs. Barry’s Marriage was produced by the terraNOVA Collective as part of their ONE Solo Arts Festival. For her work in theater, Bronwen has been awarded the Liberace Scholarship for Artistic Excellence, and the Be Your Best Youth Arts Scholarship (Australia). Eric Alperin, who plays Hal, is a graduate of the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutger’s University. Eric’s New York credits include: The Lonely Way, Life During Wartime (for which he received an OOBR Award), and Measure For Measure. Regional and International credits include: As You Like It, King Lear, Scapin, Travesties, and All’s Well That Ends Well. TV appearances include: Law and Order, The Guiding Light, and All My Children. Playing Robert, the brilliant but disturbed mathematician is Edward Keith Baker. Keith has played a variety of roles for BRT over the years including Captain Queeg in The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, Claudius in Hamlet, Teddy Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace, and James Tyrone, Jr. in A Moon For The Misbegotten. You don’t have to know anything about math to enjoy Proof. Proof is about mathematicians, but it's more about what goes on in their hearts than in their heads. Auburn brings together four characters on the porch of an old Chicago home to explore the complex formulas of love, trust and fear that bind a family together, for better or worse. Special Event evenings and performances, as well as subscriber benefits, make now the best time to join the BRT family.
