Holiday Cabaret at Triangle Theater features Durang, Reindeer Monologues, The Triangle Singers, Goldi Blondell and more - Third in the series of popular cabarets For Immediate Release: November 9, 2005 Random Acts of Theater at the Triangle Theater is producing the third in its series of popular cabarets. The HOLIDAY CABARET will feature excerpts from Jeff Goode's "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues" (reprising the popular production of Goode's piece that played at the Triangle in December 2002). The bill will also include holiday songs from the Triangle Singers, original monologues and the fabulous Goldi Blondelle from New York City by way of Louisiana. Performances are Friday and Saturday, December 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 8 PM at the Triangle Theater in Philadelphia. Jane Stojak, Triangle’s founder and co-artistic director of Random Acts of Theater, directs the HOLIDAY CABARET. Stojak sees the cabaret series as a venue for showcasing local talent as well as drawing new audiences to the Triangle. "There are lots of people who resist coming into the theater for what they think are 'intellectual' (read 'boring') plays by, say, Chekhov," Stojak said. "But when they're at the cabarets having a fabulous time and laughing their heads off, we tell them that Chekhov can be just as much fun, and then, if we're lucky, they come back for Chekhov!" Stojak sees the cabaret format as an opportunity to combine various kinds of performances. But, unlike a typical cabaret, the Triangle's cabarets always include theater pieces -- scenes and monologues that are either written by the performers themselves or are excerpted from the work of other playwrights. "We slip the theater pieces in and surprise people with the fun of them," she said. December's cabaret features several of Random Acts' company members, including Tina Brock, Bob Schmidt, Dennis Smeltzer, Dee Freidel, Jeffrey Bloovman, Kati Kertesz and Demetria Bailey. It also features the holiday carols of Goldi Blondelle who made her way to the big city of New York all the way from a tiny little town in Louisiana. Amy Casey (aka Goldi Blondelle) appeared in Random Acts' Mother's Day cabaret and as Blitzen in the first production of "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues," a role she will be reprising in the new cabaret. Several of the performers have appeared in previous Triangle shows. Dee Freidel's "Mixed Signals" was produced at the Triangle for Fringe 2004, Kati Kertesz was the hysterical wife in Chekhov's "The Bear," produced in 2004 by Random Acts, Keresz is all set to appear in Random Acts's March 2006 Philadelphia Premiere of Arje Shaw's "The Gathering." The cabaret will also feature the a cappella songs of the Triangle Singers, whose Music Director, Demetria Bailey, recently won a daytime Emmy award for her work on WPSG UPN57's Gimme the Mike Philadelphia - Best Live Performance. The Triangle Singers include Heather DiBianco and Cori O'Brien as well. Tanesha Ford, also a member of the singing group, will be absent from the cabaret this year since she is starring in Flashpoint Theatre Company's production of David Sedaris's "Seasons Greetings." The Triangle Theater's cabarets always include beverages and snacks. Stojak founded Random Acts of Theater in 1999 to produce the original works of local playwrights and to revive and re-interpret the classics. Tickets for the HOLIDAY CABARET are $20. The Triangle Theater is located at 1220 N. Lawrence Street, Philadelphia.
