Why can’t anyone operate a simple corkscrew? Where is that “chink” sound coming from? What will happen if I defy the airline safety instructions?

No answers to these and other burning questions will be provided at upcoming performances of Alarms & Excursions at the increasingly popular Montgomery Theater.

Alarms & Excursions is a farce for the modern age in which an evening of varied comic plays takes a wry look at our relationship with modern day gadgets and gizmos designed to make our life easier. Or do they?!?

W.B. Homes, Inc., a local quality builder who is “building your neighborhood one home at a time,” has stepped up to support the arts by sponsoring this latest production. In business, "our goal is to make the new home experience for our customers one of the most pleasurable and exciting experiences of their lives”. Regarding Montgomery Theater, president Bill Bonenberger says “we believe that participating in and supporting worthwhile endeavors that create a strong community preserves the quality of life for future generations”.

“Alarms and Excursions” is a compilation of eight short plays (with just four actors) that chronicles life's most hilarious technical difficulties and miscommunications. From a nice quiet evening filled with beeping, buzzing, chirping and ringing to a scene in which two people try to connect (or even just hear each other!) at a crowded party, Michael Frayn's comedy lets us laugh at ourselves and the everyday situations that have frustrated us all.

To pull off the split-second timing and diverse characterizations required, director Tom Quinn has brought together four stage veterans that he knows can deliver the goods! Starring are Paul Dake, Linda Friday, Linda Palmarozza and John Weber.

A comic gem from the author of Noises Off!, Alarms and Excursions has rarely been produced on this side of the Atlantic. Its genius lies in the same fast-paced wit and physical comedy that Frayn employed in Noises Off! What gives Alarms and Excursions a fresher comic twist is Frayn's use of his signature farcical flare while commenting so brilliantly on our technologically dependent world as it co-mingles with the human element of our society.

This suspicion of malfunctioning gadgetry mixed with a bit of human ineptitude results in an evening of theater that will surely make your life easier!

Box office opens 20 minutes before show. For more information and reservations call 215-723-9984.
