Arden Theatre Company announces the fall and winter semesters of fun and exciting theatre classes for kids in grades 1-6. Classes include everything from learning how designers build the sets to learning about character development. Favorite classes, such as Make-up and ACT: Movement and Character return. Several new ones, including Sneak Peek The Dinosaur Musical and Sing with Dinosaurs have been added to the schedule. Offerings include one-day workshops, four- and eight-week classes - perfect for any schedule. Classes are taught by some of Philadelphia's most talented and experienced theatre artists. "Our classes are energetic, inclusive and confidence building. We work with kids to ignite their dramatic imagination and to develop their innate performance skills," says Amy Dugas Brown, Arden's Associate Artistic Director, who spearheads the program.

ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS

• Technical Theatre
  Sets, Lights, Costumes and More!
  Grades 2 - 6 • Saturday, October 15 from 1 pm - 4 pm
  Discover the art created behind-the-scenes. An intriguing backstage tour is combined with hands on experiences in lights, sets, costumes and more. Tuition: $40.
  
  
• Set Painting
  Grades 3 - 6 • Saturday, October 22 from 1 pm - 4 pm
  Love to paint? Come find out the secrets and skills of painting a set for the theatre. Kids will bring home a piece of their work. Tuition: $40.
  
  
• Make-Up
  Grades 1 - 6 • Saturday, October 29 from 1 pm - 4 pm
  Just in time for Halloween! Your teacher will help you use your own make-up kit and imagination to transform you into a ghoul, a faerie, an ogre, or whatever else you want to be for Halloween. Tuition: $40 plus $15 material fee.
  
  
• Costume Design
  Grades 1 - 6 • Saturday, November 12 from 1 pm - 4 pm
  Design a costume and learn what it takes to make it in this hands-on, imaginative workshop. Tuition: $40.
  
  
• Sneak Peek: The Dinosaur Musical
  Grades 1 - 6 • Friday, November 25 from 10 am - 1 pm
  Grades 1 - 6 • Saturday, December 3 from 10 am - 1 pm
  Be the FIRST to see the set and costumes for the Arden's upcoming The Dinosaur Musical. Discover all the bells, whistles, tricks and T-rexes before opening night! Tuition: $40.
  
  
• Improv
  Grades 3 - 6 • Saturday, December 17 from 1 pm - 4 pm
  Improvisation is at the heart of acting, storytelling and comedy. It's an uproarious and energetic afternoon of high-octane acting! Tuition: $40.
  
  
• Sing with the Dinosaurs
  Grades 1 - 6 • Tuesday, December 27 from 1 pm - 4 pm
  Kids learn a musical number from Arden's The Dinosaur Musical then stage the number and perform it for members of the The Dinosaur Musical cast! Tuition: $40.
  
  
• Dino-Improv
  Grades 1 - 2 • Thursday, December 29, 10 am - 12 pm
  Grades 3 - 6 • Thursday, December 29, 1 pm - 4 pm
  Kids will use The Dinosaur Musical story as a launching pad to create their own dino-stories. Creativity soars as kids use improvisation games and techniques to act out their own adventure. Tuition: $40.
  
  

EIGHT-WEEK CLASSES
Saturdays, October 1 - November 19

• Story Crafters
  Grades 1 - 2, 10 am - 11:30 am
  Star in your favorite book! Kids read their favorite stories with their teacher and work together to retell the story dramatically. Learn how to create a character and be a great storyteller! Tuition: $175.
  
  
• ACT: Movement and Character
  Grades 3 - 4, 10 am - 12 pm
  Each character thinks, walks, speaks and acts differently. Learn to create a rich and interesting character from the inside out. Scene work included. Tuition: $175.
  
  
• ACT 2: Character and Story
  Grades 5 - 6, 10 am - 12 pm
  Kids work on scenes and specific acting techniques while working on voice and movement techniques. An energetic approach to acting! Tuition: $175.
  
  

FOUR-WEEK CLASSES
Saturdays, October 15 - November 5

• Costume Design
  Grades 3 - 5, Saturdays 1pm - 3 pm
  This creative class teaches kids how to design and build costumes. Learn the whole process, from rendering to sewing and completing a costume piece of your own. Tuition: $100 plus $10 material fee.
