Innovative Stage Program Allows Businesses to Receive Tax Credit by Supporting Act II Playhouse

For Immediate Release: June 6, 2005
Media Contact: Ted Taylor, Act II Playhouse, 215.576.7212

Local businesses looking to support the arts and at the same time receive a tax credit may have found the solution with Ambler’s Act II Playhouse, thanks to an innovative state program. Act II, is a non-profit professional theatre that just completed its sixth season this month.

Act II Playhouse has been accredited in to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program. Administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the program awards tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved scholarship organizations and/or educational improvement organizations.

The end result is a win-win situation for al concerned. The business supports the playhouse and the arts, helps provide funding for innovative theatre programs– and receives a 75-90 percent credit on their state taxes with out expending one extra cent from their operating budget.

Act II Playhouse is specifically looking for additional funding to continue their innovative “Magic of Theatre” program that has provided an educational outreach program to area school districts. The program, founded in 2002 and funded in the past by foundation grants, strives to instill in middle and high school students an understanding and appreciation of theatre. It gives the students an opportunity to observe the professional theatrical process from start to finish and also provides insight in to the fundamentals of theatre.

Businesses can apply for the tax credit program if they are subject to Corporate Net Income Tax, Bank & Trust Company shares Tax, Insurance Premiums Tax, Capital Stock Franchise Tax, Title Insurance Company shares Tax or the Mutual Thrift Institutions Tax.

Applications must be submitted to DCED on July 1 – not before or after - so the Playhouse will hand deliver any applications of businesses wanting to donate their state tax dollars to HHEF, said Development Director Rosemarie DeLucca.

For additional information on the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program, businesses may contact Ms. DeLucca at Act II Playhouse, 215-654-0200.
