Written A Few Hundred Years Ago By William Shakespeare, Presented Today By City Theater Company: Delaware's Barrymore Award-Winning Off-Broadway Theater Takes A Crack At Midsumer Night's Dream... For Immediate Release: February 7, 2005 Long known for producing satirical comedies and post-modern musicals, City Theater Company proudly announces our first take on Shakespeare. Midsummer Night's Dream will open Friday, February 18th and run through Saturday, March 12 at the Baby Grand Theater on 800 North Market Street in downtown Wilmington. The plot's a few hundred years old, but if we remember the story right from high school, its got something to do with people running around in a forest trying not to get married to each other, or trying to get married to each other, or a little bit of both and some big-headed actor getting turned into an ass by faeries and then being fed grapes and about love, unrequited love, love schemes, love deceits, love, love, love and don't forget the big-headed ass being fed grapes. Director Michael Gray promises a sensuous, textured interpretation of this well-known play. Says Gray, “Sexual tension will not be ignored. City Theater actors will roll with reckless, empassioned abandon down a raked stage that has been specially constructed for this production.” With an African-Goddess styled Titania and an Oberon inspired by Ben-Hur era Charlton Heston, this production will stop at nothing to keep the audience salivating for more. TICKET INFO: $23 for Friday and Saturday night shows. $18 for the March 12th matinee. $18 for groups of 10 or more. $10 “RUSH” tickets for patrons 25-and-under (with valid ID) are available at the box office starting 30 minutes before each performance.
