(Posted 4/4/2011) POSITION PURPOSE - The Primary purpose of this position is to provide strategic leadership and operational expertise for the DuPont Theatre and Hotel Operations team. The Theatre and Hotel enhance the DuPont Company's image within the Wilmington community.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES - This position is responsible for:
· Developing strategic business plans to include goals and objectives, operating forecast, capital budget, marketing strategies, and cost reduction programs.
· Reviewing, selecting and negotiating all contract terms for the touring professional productions that comprise the Theater Broadway Series.
· Developing critical relationships with Broadway producers and booking agents through participation in the League of American Theatres and Producers in the industry trade organization
·Directly negotiating and signing contracts with labor unions and interviewing local unions
· Interfacing with members of the Actors' Equity and Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers (ATPAM)
·Developing and maintaining a visible, positive, public image through frequent interaction with DuPont Hotel and Theatre patrons, civic organizations, and
community leaders.
·Ensuring Hotel Operational Standards are upheld through training and auditing to maintain the AAA four diamond rating for service.
·Providing leadership and direction to the Hotel housekeeping, house front and theater teams to deliver on safety and financial commitments.
KNOW HOW/EXPERIENCE - This position requires negotiating skills necessary for show contracts and labor contracts, expertise in directly interfacing with the media, a thorough understanding of business financial practices (including Du Pont's General Accounting principles (GAP system), retail marketing knowledge to maximize sales, a working knowledge of the theatrical industry's practices, procedures and terms, and practical knowledge of labor law to resolve on-going unpredictable contract issues. Safety knowledge is required to provide leadership for the Hotel operations and Theatre teams.
PROBLEM SOLVING - The DuPont Theatre operates as a small business with needs that are unique within the DuPont company. The incumbent ultimately has responsibility for resolving problems which can include such things as major disruption of a touring show canceling shortly before its scheduled appearance in Wilmington, the threat of work stoppage due to Union contract issues, and dealing with the audience reaction to the unpredictable, non-appearance of a star. In addition, the Hotel operations responsibilities require strong interpersonal skills to deal with frequent guest interaction. With the possibility of over 200 guests in the Hotel at any time, customer focus is critical.
ACCOUNTABILITY - This leadership role drives Safety and Financial goals throughout the theater and Hotel operations. This position has 5 direct reports with a variable full theater and hotel operational team. The number of limited service employees grows considerably during theater season (Oct-May) and other peak periods for the Hotel, particularly during the holiday seasons
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - Frequent travel to New York city. Significant hours of work are required during the various peak seasons.
