THE THREEPENNY OPERA
Book and Lyrics by Bertolt Brecht | Music by Kurt Weill
directed by Matthew Earnest
in the Thompson Theatre - Roselle Center for the Arts
Jan. 17 - Feb. 2
In this legendary play with music, Weill's unforgettable songs and Brecht's seamy underworld of hoodlums, beggars, and prostitutes provoke a captivating world of salacious cynicism and merry anarchy that asks the question: "Who is the bigger criminal, the man who robs a bank or the man who founds a bank?" At the center of this "Opera for Beggars" is sensuous and sinister Mack the Knife - lover, murderer, and criminal mastermind. But things go awry after Mack marries Polly Peachum, daughter of the king of the beggars, and her disapproving father is out to have Mack hanged.
